Sam didn't know how he got here. The last thing he remembered was walking to Dean, then a pressure at his back, Dean calling out his name, and then...
Nothing.
Suddenly he was in this ongoing room with mist rolling on the floor. He was wearing the same clothes as before and as he tried to walk in one direction he knew there was no end to the massive room.
So, after countless uttered 'hello's' he waited... and waited... and waited... Until someone cleared their throat behind him. He turned and saw a woman in a pure white robe smiling at him. She seemed friendly, could tell from her kind brown eyes: her short cropped hair was brushed behind her ear as she got closer: her footfalls silent.
"Hello, Sam..."
"You know who I am?" asked Sam as he got closer. "Where am I? How do I get out?"
"That's the million dollar question. Don't worry, a deal is being made as we speak to get you back and in ship-shape."
"Deal?" He was confused. "Where am I?"
"Purgatory."
"Pur-" His face fell, and all she wanted to do was cheer him up. "I died?"
"Sorry, Sam," she said. "Happens to the best of us. Won't be the only time, BELIEVE ME."
"Who are you?" asked Sam, trying to swallow the large pill known as death.
"I"m Cordelia. Your guide of sorts."
"Guide?" Sam shook his head, his large hands moving through his hair before he shoved them in the pockets of his un-stained jacket. "Of what?"
"You. Your choices. Your life. I'm that little voice in your ear telling you what is right and what is wrong. You have a knack for NOT listening to me and let me just say that THAT is beyond annoying."
"So... Ok... What are we going to do now?"
"Don't have time," said Cordelia as she walked around him, a slow circular path as she gestured with her hands. "The demon, he's growing stronger. His plan will soon be in motion. You have to stop Jake before he opens the gate, Sam. You NEED to, by any means..."
"What... Like kill him?" asked Sam.
"The Powers don't want you to take an innocent life," said Cordelia. "Well, that's what they say, anyway."
"So..."
"So... After that, be true to yourself." Codelia smiled, walking up to Sam and putting her hand on his cheek. "You're a good boy Sam. Try and stay that way. Darkness doesn't suit you."
"I need to ask you so much..." he whispered, awed by the warmth that spread through him by her touch alone.
"Sorry, Sammy." Cordelia turned her back on him. "Time's up."
She turned her head back, a smile on her face as a glow started to form around him. A little scared, Sam looked at his hands, body, then back up to Cordelia.
"I'll be watching you, Sam. And PLEASE start listening to me because I don't want to see you back up here for quite some time..."

Sam opened his eyes, gasping for breath while looking up at the ceiling of an abandoned house in Cold Oak, South Dakota...
